Usually when we choose to pack up and travel alone, there’s a deeper meaning to it. We’re either escaping something or seeking something. Some may believe that solo travelers are sad, or putting themselves in danger, but we grow the most when we’re by ourselves and facing change head on. Solo travelers can completely alter their minds view of the soul, as they’re stripped from other’s opinions, and the version of ourselves that we put forward to them.
A journey alone should not be seen as simply ‘traveling by yourself,’ but a discovery of oneself. Being in your own company and in full control of your direction somehow manages to rearrange fragmented thoughts, sorting them into their rightful place. After some time spent in reflection you’ll experience the unveiling of once cloudy ideas form into clear-cut freshly hatched plans.
Feel not convicted, for there’s never a better time to embark on a new journey than when hopelessly conflicted.
These destinations are all special in their own ways, and if it’s solitude with a side of adventure you’re after, we know just the location.
Nº1 Solo Travelers Destination
Tarifa, Andalucía, Spain
This is the ultimate dreadlock holiday. Sometimes it’s hard to remember you’re on planet earth when relaxing on the sun-kissed plains of this breezy getaway. It really is a get away too – away from anything chaotic. Escape to the dreamlike white sandy beaches and crisp turquoise waters where Mediterranean meets Atlantic. Be greeted by the free roaming cows, get your surf on or take to the sunset on horseback. Tarifa is without a doubt one of the best places to visit in Spain, for the people, the paradise and the pace of life. Here it’s easy to let go, allow things to go slow and experience the true definition of being chilled out. Just imagine the ideal sanctuary for serenity, reflection and learning acceptance.
Nº2 Solo Travelers Destination
Jackson, Wyoming, USA
The winter season is a special time for this location. Not only is the town as delightful as the nature is awe-inspiring, but everyone is so laid back and welcoming. Have yourself some snowy adventures and ski the day away on the gentle, perfectly feathered slopes. It’s an enchanted land for exploring in the crisp, cold air, which is known for bringing clarity. The town is picture-perfect, and the ideal place to get your ‘Hygge’ on. Be captivated and take it all in, enjoying sleigh rides, hot chocolate and s’mores (all-american campfire treat of fire-roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker) to help you remember what’s important and tend to the inner child we often neglect in our hectic adult world.
Nº3 Solo Travelers Destination
Costa Rica, Central America
This country has been given the rank of first place on the ‘Happy Planet Index,’ meaning it’s inhabitants lead the longest, happiest and most sustainable lives in the world. This vibrant country is a true melting pot of adventure, character and wonder, offering all sorts of fun experiences that get you outside your comfort zone and living large! If you haven’t been to a Cloud Forest yet, it’s got to be added to the bucket list without question. Discover waterfalls, birds of paradise, active volcanoes and a paradise within itself. You won’t need anyone else once you’ve discovered yourself in a place like this.
Nº4 Solo Travelers Destination
Dubrovnik, Croatia
This oceanfront medieval city takes you back to a simpler time. The pristinely preserved 6,365 feet of wall contains the city snuggly and supplies the atmosphere with a serene sense of protection. Unsurprisingly this town and the country have a very low crime rate. Venture out for a kayaking trip topped with snorkeling, and then soak in the sites of the Old Town. Lose yourself in novelist glee amongst the cobblestone streets, local eats and artisanal shops. A week or so here will have you writing your own Eat. Pray. Love book… That’s if you can stop gawking at the spectacular bird’s eye view of the Adriatic coastline.
