Energy therapy can produce life-changing results

How to clear out old energy; the methods and benefits of cleansing.

We often believe we know ourselves and that our actions, reactions and emotions are just part of who we are. What if it is deeper than that? What if there was a simple way in which we could better understand and control our natural responses? What if this could help us to overcome anxiety, stress and depression, ease relationship management and heal old emotion-based wounds, which in turn could produce positive mental and physical health improvements? Well, it just so happens it is possible and it’s a very manageable process by which we can all adhere to in order to make our lives more peaceful, balanced and happier.

What are we talking about?

Energy therapy and energy healing; kicking out all the built-up bad energy and instead inviting fresh, healthy, inspirational energy back in to produce potentially life-changing results. It inspires us to look inside and question why we make certain decisions, especially when they are bad ones, in order to discover our true selves, work on any bad energies that become apparent and develop new strategies in order to better ourselves, sharpen our intuition, and find clarity.

Energy is everywhere, it is the vibration of everything. It is what we are made of and it is flowing throughout our entire being as well as being all around us. It is the source of that instant love or hate feeling you may get when you encounter a new person.

Energy work, as it is called, is not based around any particular belief system or religion and so is available to everyone. The result of practicing such therapies may well be that we can become our own healers. I have heard it compared to a garden bed; in order to cultivate a new garden we must first tend to the area, the soil, clearing away any unwanted rocks, weeds and dirt; cleansing and nurturing it in order to prepare for any growth. Similarly, we need to be attended to in such a manner, otherwise we cannot be properly prepared to deal with our daily challenges. This is an essential and achievable process for restoring and maintaining inner harmony.

When looking into energy work your energy frequency is observed. If you emit a dense or dark energy it shows a deep-rooted fear, or heaviness, whereas light energy is rooted in love and freedom. It is believed that it is this energy which attracts the relationships we form with others; those which match our own frequency. To reflect on how your personal energy may resonate consider how you react to simple situations, prior to response check whether what you are feeling is a sense of doubt, insecurity or negativity or whether it comes from truth, an open mind, or love. In the face of conflict do you defend, attack and fight? Or do you absorb and learn from the challenges it may incur?

We may either turn such dense energy into light energy or we can allow it to enter in and cause blockages within our own energy flow points or ‘chakras’. The energetic structure through which we organise our life force is described by the chakra system. By understanding this internal arrangement, we can understand our defences and needs, and learn how to restore balance. When our chakras experience negative energy the flow can become blocked and can actually manifest as both mental and physical stress.

To reduce such blockages of energy flow from occurring there are exercises we can perform in order to restore balance within our system. Ridding ourselves of such bad energy can reconnect us with our inner guide and sharpen our intuition delivering clarity with which to better navigate our life choices with ease and grace.

Exercise is paramount to a healthy life yet so many people neglect to exercise their mind and spiritual side. This is just as important as any physical exercise as both contribute to health, and one does not come without the other.

We can incorporate the practice of ‘running energy’ daily throughout our bodies in order to clear our energy and increase our vitality and focus. To do this we first need to learn to focus on the ‘now’. We are so often caught up in what we need to do next or what happened before that quite often the moment in hand is overlooked. We forget to be present, to practice mindfulness; an intentional awareness of the present moment.

If you ever get the feeling of being overwhelmed, consumed by mental overcrowding, or a situation gives you too many conflicting thoughts, you may feel the need to take a moment to breathe, to think. These are the moments when we need to clear, or clean, our energy. Taking time to sort through our thoughts, selecting those we wish to keep, utilise and store and those we can set free and release from our minds.

This process is very similar to that of energy therapy or healing; it is a way to consciously examine what we are holding within us. We can purposefully decide what to hold on to and what to release based on our current state of mind. If we are full of an entire lifetime of energy we would be full to the brim with blockages and little room for manoeuvre. This is why we need to learn the process of clearing, avoid stagnation and move onwards and literally upwards. It is a process we must partake in consistently in order to maintain good energy. How often we practice depends on our personal situation, if you are someone who is persistently bombarded with other people’s energy or intense experiences or are simply a sensitive person you may need to clear out more often than those who have stronger boundaries or are less susceptible to taking on other energies.

What is energy healing or cleansing?

Depending on the method, energy healing focuses on the life force that flows through all of us; that force that dictates our mood, health, energy, and ability to connect with other beings. In Chinese and Japanese culture that force is referred to as ki or qi (pronounced: chi). In India, it is known as prana – the energy that spins and flows through the chakras, an intangible force that cannot be comprehended in the materialist sense.

Although the perspective of western science and medicine often labels energy healing as pseudoscientific, the perception is starting to change as scientists and academics begin to understand the principles behind the techniques and benefits that have been known to eastern cultures for centuries.

Influencing this flow of energy by implementing physical and mental awareness and intention, can bring about profound and replicable results. Through meditation, physical touch, and exercise our energy bodies can be altered to provide higher states of health, consciousness and, you guessed it, energy. These energy healing techniques can help you find an approach that is right for you and lead you on a path to healing and sustained health.

How do you begin?

First of all you need to find the technique that works for you. There are countless ways but the only way it will really work is if the process resonates with you personally. For example there are spiritual rituals which, if you have no connection or belief in, would not be appropriate for you. Or, using crystals as energy tools, if you don’t affiliate with this idea then the procedure will possibly be ineffective. You need to find what makes sense to you by developing your very own methods and personal rituals.

Types of techniques and therapies

energy healing

Meditation

Affects the body in exactly the opposite way that trauma does. When practicing meditation heart rate and breathing slow down; blood pressure normalises, oxygen is used more efficiently, adrenal glands produce less cortisol and adrenalin, positive hormone production increases, and immune function improves. In addition, the mind gains clarity and creativity increases. Meditation restores the body to a calm state, helps the body to physically repair itself, and prevents new damage caused by the physical effects of everyday stress.

Healing Touch

Is a relaxing, nurturing energy therapy that uses gentle touch to assist in balancing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and well-being. Healing Touch uses the chakra system as a tool for diagnosis and as an integral part of the healing process.

Qigong

Is one of the fundamental practices of energy healing and exercise based on the Chinese concept of qi, qigong is concerned with balancing the flow of energy throughout the body. Much like Tai Chi or yoga, qigong cultivates the life force through a series of body postures, breathing, and meditation. It is also used as a foundational practice for martial arts, as it develops balance, agility and muscle strength. It can develop higher levels of awareness, reduce anxiety and clear your vision.

Chinese Meridians and Acupuncture

The meridians are a map of routes within our body, through which energy flows. These meridians correspond with the connections and routes of muscles, endocrine glands and the nervous system. There are over 600 points on the body that acupuncture targets with thin needles that are directly connected to major organs and bodily systems. These connections are made through the meridians and collaterals, the vessels associated with meridians. Acupuncture has been found to treat a number of ailments like depression, anxiety, and negative moods. It has also had a positive impact on deeper physical issues like digestive problems and chronic pain.

Reflexology

Finds its roots in the Chinese focus on balancing the flow of energy, but primarily targets the hands, ears, and feet. Different locations on our feet and hands are thought to have direct connections through the meridians to different organs and systems in our body that can be detoxed and positively influenced. Through a targeted and sometimes intense massage, reflexology frees up blocked energy through stimulation, muscle relaxation, and the encouragement of lymph flow. Reflexology is said to cleanse the body of toxins, boost the immune system, balance energy, and increase circulation. After a reflexology foot massage, you might feel like you are walking on air or feel lighter in your stride. Though these immediately noticeable effects can be fleeting, the unseen, internal effects can provide a longer lasting benefit.

Chakra healing

Focusses on our different ‘chakras’ (seven spinning centres of energy found in our bodies) the ancient Indian conception of our body’s primary energy centres. Based on their location they are connected to key endocrine glands and areas of nervous system function throughout the body, much like the Chinese meridians. The seven Chakras are located in alignment from the top of our head, to the base of our spine and, when functioning in synchronicity, allow for a steady flow of energy throughout the body. Our chakras must be properly balanced – it doesn’t make sense to have an overabundance of energy in one chakra and a deficiency in another. Chakras also have the ability to open and close, allowing for the outward and inward flow of energy. Our chakras tend to close when we experience negativity, sadness and anger. In order to open up chakras we use breathing techniques, meditation and intention to eliminate negativity and open up to the flow of positive energy.

Reiki

Is a Japanese technique was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui based on the five principles of Japan’s emperor, Meiji; don’t get angry, don’t worry, be grateful, work diligently, be kind to others. It is also based on the idea of the flow of energy to help people realise the importance of making an intentional effort to heal. This concept of self-improvement and self-discipline, that is a characteristic of Japanese culture, encourages Reiki practitioners to incorporate energy healing into their lives, but to also take an active role in healing oneself. The practice uses palm-healing or hands-on-healing to transfer, balance, and realign energy from the healer to the recipient.

Awareness

Is an essential part of healing. To feel safe in the knowledge that it is OK to be exactly where you are right now, to be experiencing what you are, to be suffering with whatever you may happen to be dealing with, it is perfectly OK. Acceptance and awareness are key to being able to be present in the moment and release any bad energy which is preventing you from the healing process. Once this is released you can begin to navigate your situation with clarity and purpose, to make better decisions with less emotional distraction.

“To be in a relationship to what you are going through, to hold it, and, in some sense, to befriend it—that is where the healing or transformative power of the practice of mindfulness lies. When we can actually be where we are, not trying to find another state of mind, we discover deep internal resources we can make use of. Coming to terms with things as they are is my definition of healing”.
